However, once you get to the Dry Tortugas, there is plenty to enjoy and see. From lighthouses to a massive masonry structure, the Dry Tortugas is a beautiful sight to behold. Haunts Of The Literary Greats

Two of the greatest writers in American fiction have called the island of Key West home for at least part of their lives. Both Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams spent a substantial part of their lives on the island, and both were inspired by their experiences. For Hemingway, his time spent resulted in The Sun Also Rises among other works, while Williams' tenure resulted in A Streetcar Named Desire.

These two greats' homes are popular Key West attractions attracting visitors from all over the world. Many are fascinated knowing that descendants of Hemingway's seven toed cat still roam the island to this day and are a symbol of local pride.

The Conch Republic Buoy

One of the most visited Key West attractions is the Conch Republic Buoy. Located just 90 miles from Cuba, the large monument is the southernmost point of the United States accessible by tourists. The monument was erected in 1983 after signs that also dedicated the spot were continually stolen.

No trip to Key West is complete without a trip and a photograph of this Key West staple.
