Key West’s Duval street is famous for more than it’s bars and pub crawl, it’s also famous for it’s awesome art shopping! It’s a great way to take a break from the hussle of the party scene of Duval Street, and cool off from the warm summers. A lot of art galleries in Key West feature local artists. Some of these galleries are a bit hidden and off the beaten path around Duval Street, so some of them don’t get the notoriety they deserve. Here are just a few that you should take tohem time to look at while you enjoy your Key West vacation.
Key West Art Gallery
Located in Old Town Key West on Duval Street, and has art from some of the most collectible and sought after artists in the world. Bill Mack, Alexander Volkov and Peter Max. Key West Art Gallery specializes in quality art pieces for investment purposes, and have the passion for keeping quality art alive for years to come.
Harrison Gallery
Located in Old Town district of Key West, this little gallery has been running for 20 years. Tucked away on White Street, Ben Harrison, a famous singer/ author, and his wife, Helen, a famous artist known for her sculptures, opened the charming gallery together in hopes of spreading inspiration of art to all of it’s visitors. Helen uses natural objects as her inspirations for her sculptures, like pears and gourds. Cynthia Kulp, most famous for her paintings, uses parrots as her subjects, and is another artist featured in the Harrison Gallery in Key West.
Wyland Art Gallery
The Wyland Art Gallery is newly renovated in the downtown Key West location. If you decide to vacation in the Keys, you will see that there are many locations for Wyland Art Galleries. Of course, this art gallery features the works of Wyland, whose inspirations came from Jacques Cousteau, and uses many mediums for his art, ranging from oil and watercolor, sculpting with bronze, and photography, to name a few. Even if you are not in the market for buying new art work, Best on Key West recommends at least stopping in.
