Audubon House and Tropical Gardens

The Audubon House and Tropical Gardens is a unique destination in Key West that combines history and nature in an almost impeccable way. The house itself, a late 19th century Victorian mansion, was set to be demolished in 1958 but was saved by the Mitchel Wolfson Family Foundation. The foundation hoped to keep and preserve the house for education and historical purposes. The house today features a unique collection of art by John James Audobon, including many beautiful 19th century originals.

Outside of the house, you will find a beautifully constructed gardens area. Guests are welcome to walk through the full acre of tropical foliage featuring all kinds of native Key West plants and flowers. Some of the most popular plants include the varieties of orchids as well as bromeliads. The gardens also feature an herb garden.
